Maria 'Marie' Sokernyk Obituary

 Maria ‘Marie’ C. (Maggio) Sokernyk, 89 of Auburn passed away Wednesday evening, February 25,2026 at Loretto Nursing Home in Syracuse.
  She was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the daughter of the late Andrew and Rosa (Volino) Maggio. ‘Marie’ as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was a longtime beautician. She retired from New Process Gear in Syracuse after more than 20 years of service. She was an avid bowler and proud member of the 600 Club. Marie was a former Sicz club member and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  She cherished all the many special times shared with her family and will be deeply missed by all of them.
  She is survived by her loving children , Deborah (Thomas) Netti, Paul (Debra) Samasuck, Donna ( Woody) Laird, eight beloved grandchildren, Bryan Netti, David (Marc) Netti, Erin (Charles) Bond, Jenniffer Luhr, Kevin (Melissa) Luhr, Stephen and Scott Samasuck, Michael Sokernyk,  several great-grandchildren, two brothers Joseph (Betty Jane) Maggio, Andrew (Patty) Maggio, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  In addition to her parents, Marie was also predeceased by her husband Yaroslaw ‘Jerry’, two sons Stephen and Mark, a sister Nicolina Bolak and brother Rocco Maggio.
  There are no services at this time.  

  A graveside service will be held in the coming months in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
  In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider a donation in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
